Hoboken High School Achieves Historic Success in Advanced Placement Program
A Record Year of Achievement, Access, and Advancement
Hoboken, NJ — July 14, 2026 — Hoboken High School proudly celebrates a record-breaking year of achievement in its Advanced Placement (AP) program, underscoring the district’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, equity, and college readiness. The 2026 AP Exam results reflect both exceptional student performance and unprecedented program growth.
Outstanding Academic Achievement
Hoboken High School students earned an average AP exam score of 3.57, exceeding both the New Jersey state average (3.46) and the global average (3.29).
- Students outperformed the state in 18 of 28 AP subjects and surpassed global averages in 20 of 28 subjects.
- 22 AP courses achieved averages of 3.0 or higher, with 8 courses averaging 4.0 or higher.
- Top-performing subjects included Calculus BC (5.00), Precalculus (4.80), U.S. Government & Politics (4.53), Comparative Government & Politics (4.50), and French Language & Culture (4.50).

Unprecedented Growth and Recognition
The AP program has seen remarkable expansion in both participation and success:
- 105 Hoboken High School students were recognized as AP Scholars in 2025 — a 1,400% increase from just seven in 2019.
- 85% of AP exam scores earned a 3 or higher, compared to 5% in 2012, marking an 80-point improvement in success rates.
- Enrollment in AP course seats for the 2026–2027 school year has reached 862, a 64.5% increase since 2024–2025.
“We are proud to see our students not only enrolling in AP courses but excelling in them,” said Dr. Christine Johnson, Superintendent of the Hoboken Public School District. “This growth reflects our district’s commitment to providing rigorous, college-level opportunities for all learners.”
Expanding Access and Opportunity
For the upcoming academic year, Hoboken High School will offer 28 AP courses, the most in its history. These courses span disciplines including English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, World Languages, Computer Science, Arts, and Economics, ensuring that every student has access to challenging and diverse academic pathways.
The district’s focus on alignment, strategy, and purpose has transformed AP recruitment and instruction into a movement of impact — one that builds confidence, college readiness, and lifelong learning.

In addition to the College Board AP Program, students at Hoboken High School participate in a wide range of dual enrollment courses that result in both high school and college credits simultaneously.
