Hoboken High School Senior Natasha Anderson Named Jefferson Scholar at the University of Virginia

Hoboken, NJ, —March 6, 2026 Hoboken High School senior Natasha Anderson has been selected as a Jefferson Scholar at the University of Virginia through the prestigious Jefferson Scholars Program. This is one of the most competitive and highly regarded undergraduate scholarship programs in the United States.

The Jefferson Scholarship provides full tuition, room, board, and enrichment funding, including support for independent research projects, international travel, and leadership development opportunities. Each year, approximately 7,000 students are nominated nationwide, but only about 30 students are ultimately selected after a rigorous process that includes multiple rounds of regional and national interviews.

Selection as a Jefferson Scholar is based not only on academic excellence, but also on leadership, character, and a demonstrated commitment to serving others. Scholars join a distinguished community of students who are recognized for their intellectual curiosity and their potential to make meaningful contributions to society.

Anderson’s achievement places her among the most accomplished high school students in the country and reflects her dedication to both academic and personal excellence.

In addition to this remarkable honor, Anderson was recently recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction by the College Board. The AP Scholar with Distinction award is granted to students who demonstrate exceptional performance across multiple Advanced Placement exams, typically earning scores of 3 or higher on at least five AP exams with an overall average score of at least 3.5. The recognition highlights Anderson’s sustained commitment to challenging coursework and high academic achievement.

Reflecting on the honor, Anderson expressed both excitement and gratitude for the educators who supported her throughout her high school journey.

“This is a huge honor and I’m feeling really, really excited,” Anderson said. “I feel that some of the credit has to go to the wonderful teachers I’ve had at Hoboken High. I especially want to thank Mr. Huggins for taking time out of his day to help me come up with essay ideas, and Ms. Gleason who has always been incredibly helpful whenever I needed it.”

“Natasha Anderson’s accomplishments are truly remarkable,” said Robin Piccapietra, Hoboken High School Principal. “Her success reflects not only her individual determination and intellectual curiosity, but also the strong academic environment and supportive community at Hoboken High School. Our administrators and faculty are incredibly proud of the example she sets for her peers.”

As Anderson prepares for the next chapter of her academic journey at the University of Virginia, she joins a network of Jefferson Scholars who continue to pursue innovation, scholarship, and service at the highest levels. Her achievement stands as a source of pride for the Hoboken Public School District and an inspiration to fellow students striving to reach their full potential.
